GATES TAKES WRAPS OFF OF WINDOWS XP | CNET

Thursday, October 25, 2001 -- an OS is born. Bill Gates has delivered
his new baby, Windows XP, in Times Square. This is likely the most
important Windows release since Windows 95 because XP lays the Web
services foundation upon which Microsoft is building its future.
Today also marks the birth of a billion-dollar ad blitz.

BALLMER: THIRD-PARTY INNOVATION IS THE BIG DRAW FOR XP | IDG News

While Bill is in New York, Steve is in London putting a little
English on XP. Steve Ballmer cut the ribbon on XP and said that the
coolest thing about XP will be the innovations it brings out of
Microsoft's partners. Ballmer also said companies deploying Windows
2000 should stick with it: "Those people may push off a Windows XP
rollout to some time way in the future."

THE MISSING LINK | American says he swapped e-mails with Saddam

If they were to make this a movie, it could be called "The Dude and
the Despot." A software engineer from suburban Philadelphia launched
an e-mail on Iraq, specifically Saddam Hussein, asking him to join
the allied forces against terrorism. Expecting to get a response from
that "mailer daemon" guy, he allegedly got a response from the
"Baghdaddy" instead. Christopher Love said Saddam expressed his
sympathies for the victims of the 9/11 attacks and wrote "God has
created us and to Him we return. May God give you a long life." No
word if the new e-pals plan to meet in person.
