LEAD STORY

CRITICAL UPDATE FOR WINDOWS XP RELEASED | ENT Magazine

There's already a Windows XP update out there. The patch is supposed
to fix at least one bug that turned up after the development code
went gold in August. The bug affects Internet Explorer versions 5.01,
5.5 and 6.0, and could give hackers the power to erase data. The
patch presents a chance for MS to test its automatic update feature.

MICROSOFT BOSS JUNKS WINDOWS 2000 | CRN

Windows 2000 -- a disappointment? Steve Ballmer said last week that
Win2k should have been Redmond's first end-to-end solution for
businesses and consumers. But he admitted it "wasn't ready" to do so,
and that it is reliable, but not terribly compatible. Ballmer added
that anyone who has started their Windows 2000 deployment should
stick with it, but anyone who hasn't should roll with XP.

MICROSOFT GIVES SQL SERVER MORE XML FLUENCY | InfoWorld

There wasn't an XP-like fuss about it, but Microsoft has updated its
SQLXML Web release add-on for SQL Server 2000. SQLXML 2.0 packs
support for XSD (XML Schema Definition), which should make data
integration and interoperability a little easier. It also lets
developers use Visual Studio.Net to weave XML features into SQL
Server 2000, an important step for building Web services.

THE MISSING LINK | Bus in landmark rights event sold over Internet

Two eras have met head on -- the civil rights era and the Internet
era. One of the most famous vehicles in history, the bus on which
Rosa Parks refused to surrender her seat to a white man, has been
sold over the 'Net. An unnamed "cultural institution" bid on and
bought the bus for $492,000 and plans to preserve it. That's the kind
of price you'd expect from a vehicle that offers history as standard
equipment. Parks' refusal aboard the Montgomery, Ala. bus in 1955
helped put a movement in drive and carried her into history.
