MICROSOFT WARMS TO JAVA | News: searchWindowsManageability

Microsoft isn't exactly hot for Java, but the company has at least
warmed up to it a little, having licensed a JDBC driver to connect
Java programs to SQL servers. Java may still be a four-letter word in
Redmond, but Microsoft seems to realize that bleeping it out would be
a mistake.

info.

MICROSOFT ACADEMY RECRUITS WINDOWS USERS | News: ZDNet

Microsoft is taking Windows to school, starting up a program called
IT Academy. The idea here is to get high schoolers wise to the ways
of Windows workings. Schools subscribing to it get access to
materials for training students to be technicians and technology
managers and receive the latest Microsoft products, including Windows
XP and .NET products.

ASK THE EXPERT | Active Directory on a small network

Dear Ask the Expert,
I've got a small network (one NT4 PDC server running Exchange 5.5 and
Proxy with 35 users and two network printers) with minimal future
growth expected. Is it worth the effort to move to Active Directory
during an upgrade to Win2000 on this size network?

THE MISSING LINK | IM usage in workplace is rising

There must be someone at your office who spends more time instant
messaging and changing out icons than actually working. Pretty much
everyone works with someone like that. IMs have become the personal
phone calls of the computer age, but they're not just time killers
anymore. They're working their way up the ladder and becoming an
essential part of the workplace. The proof is in the numbers. A new
report shows U.S. workers spent 4.9 billion minutes IMing in
September 2001. The year before, that figure was a paltry 2.3 billion
minutes. AOL is the champ, but MSN and Yahoo are on the rise.
