[1] "Microsoft patches Outlook Web Access again" 
If you're an Exchange 2000 administrator, you may have heard this
already: Another vulnerability has turned up in Exchange's Outlook
Web Access (OWA) component. A DoS attack could be the end result, but
Microsoft says the threat is minimal. Still, if you have OWA with
Exchange 2000, start patching. This is the third OWA-related
vulnerability and fifth overall OWA patch this year.

[2]  "New Windows boost for instant messaging"
Beta 3 of Windows.Net server should have APIs for writing
cutting-edge instant-messaging apps. Developers and IT departments
could use the interfaces to build apps that let workers send IMs that
are encrypted, securely hosted, and are more flexible when it comes
to transferring files. The beta is due in November.

could trim the number of new incidents of malicious code.

[4] "Judge orders Microsoft-government settlement talks"
Start talkin' and don't stop! That's the order from U.S. District
Court Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly -- she has told Microsoft and the
government to get serious about settlement talks. The judge wants the
talks to be going on a 24/7 schedule until a deadline on November
2nd.

[5] "Ballmer and Gates get salary hikes"
For those of you keeping score at home, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer
received $665,520 total cash compensation for this fiscal year. His
boss Bill Gates received $666,754. The company has managed to stay
relatively healthy in these economic straits.

"Gates remains America's richest person"

Bill Gates lost $9 billion last year -- but nobody's weeping for him.
The Microsoft co-founder remains the richest man in America,
according to Forbes Magazine, with a net worth of $54 billion. Boy,
that Microsoft is some money machine. Fellow co-founder Paul Allen is
third in the rich-guy rankings, and current CEO Steve Ballmer is
tenth.
