Researchers say Nimda is reloading and could spread itself again this week. The worm is apparently on a ten-day "re-spread" schedule. This is what happens when you play monopoly. Analysts say the fact that Sun has formed an alliance to compete with Microsoft's Passport ID engine is residue from the antitrust case. The Liberty Alliance's existence is proof that the market is monopoly-wary and doesn't want any one vendor to have so much control over the Internet or user IDs. Microsoft may actually join the alliance. Circuit City's CEO is asking the government not to make it any tougher. W. Alen McCollough has asked the U.S. Senate not to do anything that might delay the release of Windows XP. SOURCE: Newsbytes http://www.newsbytes.com/news/01/170541.html [3] "NEC intros fault-tolerant server to U.S." NEC Computers is revving up the tolerance, rolling a fault-tolerant server into the U.S. market. The server runs Windows 2000 Advanced Server. NEC Express5800/ft320La starts at around $20,000, which includes the operating system, and is available through an indirect sales channel. Microsoft's list of Datacenter Server-certified apps now stands at 15. SOURCE: ENT Magazine http://www.entmag.com/breaknews.asp?ID=4972 [5] "Sun alliance targets Microsoft's Passport" Passport has been a dirty word around Sun -- now the company is cooking up something to combat it. Sun doesn't like the fact that a single company can control surfers' digital identities, so it's teaming up with some other companies to work on some alternatives. I can't decide if I should go after MCP/MCSE certifications or whether I should try to tackle the Cisco certifications. (If I do go the Microsoft route, I'm afraid I will be forever updating my certifications.) I really liked Novell, but it is getting harder and harder to find companies that use it anymore. Do you have any advice about which path I should take? They've devised a magical pair of trousers that forces blood away from the legs and toward the chest. How does it work? Researchers very clinically note that the pants squeeze "like a tube of toothpaste." So far they've had success in curing angina. This may be one instance where people truly are happy that nothing comes between them and their Calvins.
