It's the end of the year and I want to know if your wishes for 2001 came true. Let me know how your year went. Did your budget let you buy all the goodies you planned, or did unanticipated costs arise? If so, what management tools did you forego buying in 2001 but still hope to buy in 2002?

Speaking of 2002, here are some predictions for the new year we've gathered from interviews with industry analysts, experts and administrators like yourself:

  • More organizations will stop denying that they must migrate to Active Directory.
  • Increased storage area network (SAN) and network attached storage (NAS) usage -- especially by small to mid-sized companies.
  • Heightened disaster recovery awareness. Organizations no longer will slack on coming up with data recovery plans and procedures that will really work in the event of a catastrophic system failure.
  • Windows data integration tools will surface that will consolidate data collected from different files. Once consolidated, the tools will correlate and present the data.

Let me know if we're off base or just touching the tip of the iceberg. Where do you see 2002 taking Windows systems management?
