LEAD STORY

MS REPORTEDLY HALTS NEW SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT | News: Wininformant

There's a report out that claims Microsoft has called off all new
coding for one month while employees go on bug hunts in the existing
codes. That's the word from a government IT publication in the U.S.
called "Government Computer News," although no mainstream media
outlets seem to have gotten wind of this announcement.

WINDOWS MORE SECURE THAN LINUX? | News: vnunet

Is Windows the most vulnerable of them all? Not according to a study
by SecurityFocus. Their stats show the collective flavors of Linux
had more vulnerabilities last year (96) than NT/2000 (42). The
figures in that study only go up to August 2001.

ELLISON SAYS "WHOLE BUSINESS" TO RUN ON LINUX | News: IDG News

Larry Ellison announced that Oracle is replacing three Unix servers
that run most of its business applications with a cluster of Intel
servers running Linux. Why did he pick the penguin over Windows?
Because Linux is "much safer if you're on the Internet," he said.

HE WRITES THE SONGS: MAC SONGS | The Missing Link

John Swerdan -- what Derek and the Dominoes were to "Layla," he is to
Macintosh. The San Francisco area grade school teacher has written
and recorded an album of love songs inspired by his Mac! How very
"PC" of him. You could say his computer is the Apple of his eye. Some
of the song titles: "Startup/Hard Drive," "Quickdraw Bill" and "Poor
Sad Mac." The album, "StartupSounds," is available on Swerdan's Web
site. But he's not yet on the level of Bread, Manilow or Croce. So
far he hasn't sold a single copy.
