Our respondents graded Microsoft in a number of areas. Windows 2000 got high marks, but Redmond got red flagged for all the darn upgrades, the nebulous nature of .NET and shoddy security. http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/originalContent/0,289142,sid1_gci821191,00.html MORE ON THIS TOPIC: Check out the full report in all its glory at http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/featuredTopic/0,290042,sid1_gci820712,00.html. _____________________________________________________________________ ********************************************************************* OTHER STORIES In addition to the headlines below, others are available on our news page. >> FULL STORIES: http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/news =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= C# STRIKING A CHORD WITH PROGRAMMERS | News: CNET C# is looking sharp -- a new survey shows 12% of North American software developers are using C# -- that figure was 7% six months ago. Evans Data predicts the number of programmers using C# will double in the next year. VB developers like it a lot -- Java developers less so. Analysts say C# isn't gaining at any other language's expense, because most of the users are just testing it, not going with it full steam. http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/newsItem/0,289139,sid1_gci821773,00.html APP-SERVER MARKET TO BOIL DOWN TO 4 SURVIVORS | News: InternetWeek AMR researchers say the application server market is a drama with four prime-time players -- Microsoft, Oracle, IBM and BEA. AMR said the swell of support behind .NET has thrust Microsoft as the third largest app server vendor, behind IBM and BEA. Sun didn't make the list of marquee players, but it still has an important role as the controller of the enterprise Java platform. http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/newsItem/0,289139,sid1_gci821412,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ADDITIONAL SEARCHWIN2000 NEWS HEADLINES More headlines, including those below, are available on our news page >> FULL STORIES: http://searchwin2000.techtarget.com/news - Capellas: Linux, Windows will "eviscerate" Unix - Klez leads monthly malicious code list - Ballmer dropped from witness list _____________________________________________________________________ ********************** SPONSORED BY: Bookspan *********************** Fast-track your career and command higher pay! Fans of the American shock rock band Slipknot (a band that makes KISS look like Pat Boone) wanted to e-mail their idols, so they sent fawning e-pistles to what they thought was the band's e-mail address. But the e-mails ended up about 180 degrees off the mark -- in the inbox of a ladies' knitting circle in the U.K.! When the fans found out the recipients were more into hemming than headbanging, they bombarded the nice ladies with a nastier batch of e-mails telling them to get their darned selves off the Web. That must've made the poor knitters spill their tea! Hope nobody in Slipknot splits their pants while they're touring the U.K. Source: Reuters http://www.reuters.com/news_article.jhtml?type=internetnews&StoryID=915627 ____________________________________________________________________ ********************** SEARCHWIN2000 CONTACTS ********************** MARILYN COHODAS, Site Editor (mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]) >> Send me your original articles and best practices. _____________________________________________________________________ CHRISTINE POLEWARCZYK, Assistant Editor (mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]) >> Send me your ideas for online event and discussion day topics. _____________________________________________________________________ DAVID PYE, Assistant Editor (mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]) >> Send me your tips, white papers and favorite Web sites. _____________________________________________________________________ ED PARRY, News Editor (mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]) >> Send me your news, press releases and product announcements. _____________________________________________________________________ MIKE KELLY (mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED].) >> Contact me to sponsor this or any other TechTarget newsletter. _____________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ *********************** ABOUT THIS NEWSLETTER *********************** Created by TechTarget (http://www.techtarget.com) TechTarget - The Most Targeted IT Media Copyright 2002, All Rights Reserved.
