LEAD STORY
Desktop becoming less Windowscentric  (SearchWin2000)
The desktop management market is getting more crowded as more businesses look for easier ways to pass from one platform to another. One company, Marimba, says it can do what Microsoft's own System Management Server does with a few differences -- cost, features and support of non-Windows platforms.

THE MISSING LINK
Technology blamed for U.S. obesity

Technology -- it's not just making our lives easier, it's making our pants tighter. Researchers at the University of Chicago figured that the single biggest reason six out of 10 Americans are overweight is the advent of a sedentary workplace. In other words, sitting in a cubicle working a mouse, which more and more people are doing, just isn't the same as going into a plant and working a machine or going to the field and working the crops. "Supersize" those fries and throw in a shake, and you have what the researchers call a "rising epidemic of obesity."
