Dell unhooks Windows from desktops (CNET)
You don't see too many PCs ship without OSes, but the practice is on the verge of becoming more commonplace. Dell next month will debut its n-Series corporate desktop and workstations -- they come OS-less but will have a copy of a free operating system, FreeDOS, packed inside the box. FreeDOS won't be pre-installed, so customers will have an easier time choosing and installing the OS they want.

Princeton demotes official over Yale Web intrigue
;)
Here's an update to that story about intrigue in the Ivy League. A head hasn't quite rolled in the Princeton/Yale Web site scrap, but it's definitely hanging lower. Princeton has demoted one of the top dogs in its admissions department, the guy who basically hacked into a Web site designed to inform applicants of their admission status at Yale. But wait, there's more. Princeton's dean of admissions will retire next year, ostensibly because of this, and nine lower-level members of the staff are in a heap of trouble. Oh what a tangled Web we weave indeed!
