    >> Server performance: Expert advice on hardware
This year, Dell said that an independent survey of the server market put the Round Rock, Texas computer maker in first place in server sales. That must mean the company is doing something right. So we asked them how they set up servers for best performance. The answers we got -- while not too surprising -- can't be over stated if you want your computers to run as quickly as they can for the best throughput and with the best possible reliability.

    >> Oops! True IT blooper #57: Please don't help me!
An ambitious IT staffer ventured into The Blooper Zone when installing printer memory modules. They're supposed to go in the printers.

    >> Security push makes patch management strategy a must
According to one expert's math, Microsoft has sent out about 30 patches and hot fixes so far this year. For this reason, it behooves all Windows shops to develop some form of patch management strategy, even if it means simply setting up a time every six weeks for a patch review. Simple as that sounds, even the most conscientious IT administrators can find the task daunting.

Tip of the Week: Lab exams? We don't need no stinkin' lab exams
Is there a lab exam in your future? According to recent comments from Dan Truax, of Microsoft's certification skills and assessment-strategy group, the answer is probably not. But you should expect some "exam innovations" in the area of hands-on testing. "We have no specific plans to launch a lab exam," Truax said in a recent MCP Magazine article. Instead, he told MCP Mag that Microsoft intends to incorporate simulations within exams and that it's possible that future exams will include more product interaction.
