The state of e-business: Microsoft driving some to open source (SearchCIO.com)
Many organizations are already testing the waters of open source for servers and applications, but Microsoft's new licensing program will now drive some toward open-source systems such as Linux for the desktop, according to SearchCIO.com expert Mandy Andress. ProComp: Microsoft breaks promise with XP SP1 (The Associated Press)
ProComp, the group that's been watching Microsoft like a hawk insofar as its business practices go, claims that XP SP1 doesn't keep the promise Microsoft made in its proposed settlement with the DOJ. The service pack is supposed to provide a way for consumers to remove certain MS middleware icons from the desktop. But ProComp claims XP SP1 isn't "readily accessible to consumers," so therefore that hide function isn't readily accessible either. Therefore, ProComp states, MS isn't complying.
