NEWS
XDocs marks the spotlight (CNET)
XDocs marks the spotlight at Gartner's Symposium and ITxpo this week in Orlando, Fla. XDocs is the code name of a new, XML-based Microsoft product that should make it easier for companies to call up and organize information using electronic forms by linking desktop documents to back-end data. XDocs, aimed at corporate buyers, should hit the market in the middle of 2003, around the same time Office 11 will ship.

ASK ROBERTA BRAGG
Driverless USB device thieves
Dear Roberta:
How do we guard Windows 2000 machines against data thieves equipped with driverless USB storage devices? Some of these drives act like an IDE drive, so we fear disabling USB on the OS won't help. Also USB support cannot be disabled in the BIOS of our Compaq boxes.

THE MISSING LINK
True IT blooper #67 -- Compaq Portable code red

The most recent newcomer to "Oopsburgh" learned the hard way that too much disk space can be a bad thing -- especially when the file that basically runs the computer has been tossed out with the rest of the "trash." Want an analogy? Think of a doctor telling you that a good way to lose weight would be to have your brain removed!
