Once information disclosure becomes a significant issue for an enterprise, the ability to share folders from a client should be categorically revoked. Windows 2000, XP and .NET systems all grant users the ability to share resources they own. However, with group policy objects distributed by Active Directory, you can prune this capability away from users. >>Click here for the full tip: http://www.searchWin2000.com/tip/1,289483,sid1_gci860866,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= A TOOL THAT MIGRATES AN NT WORKSTATION TO AD | Ask Serdar Yegulalp Dear Serdar: Do you know of a tool that will migrate an NT workstation from a workgroup (i.e., a local profile and local account) to Active Directory (i.e., the original local profile and domain account)? >>Click here for Yegulalp's expert response: http://searchwindowsmanageability.techtarget.com/ateQuestionNResponse/0,289625,sid33_cid475437_tax288093,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= DELEGATING AUTHORITY IN ACTIVE DIRECTORY | by Douglas Paddock "Delegation of authority" simply means giving certain users or groups rights in Active Directory. Giving someone all rights at domain level basically makes them a domain administrator, which is the exact opposite of what Active Directory is trying to do with delegation of authority. IT pro Douglas Paddock shares some of the pros and cons of delegating authority in Active Directory in preparation for his webcast on the same topic. >>Click here for the full article: http://searchwindowsmanageability.techtarget.com/originalContent/0,289142,sid33_gci860466,00.html ___________________________________________________________________ IMPORTANT MESSAGES AND LINKS: =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= DECIPHERING DNS | Featured Topic DNS is an integral part of Windows 2000, but configuring and managing it is a difficult and confusing process for many admins. We have three on-campus domain controllers and about 10 remote site domain controllers, all Windows 2000. We have setup AD sites but cannot seem to get our remote desktops to consistently authenticate to the local domain controllers in their own site. This is causing some network latency as these users authenticate over the WAN to DCs here on campus. Any ideas and/or tips to get users to ALWAYS authenticate to their local domain controllers? >>Click here to lend a hand to this fellow site member: http://searchwin2000.discussions.techtarget.com/WebX?msgInContext@;58.6vozaVD8t8S.1@.ee83d6a/365!viewtype=threadDate&skip=&expand =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= NEW MONTH, NEW PRIZE!
