Sun solution providers say MS "victory" won't be Java's loss (CRN)
While many analysts and customers agree that approval of the Microsoft antitrust settlement will not change the way MS does business, Sun solution providers add that the decision will not jeopardize Java's future either. One solution provider claims it doesn't matter if Microsoft will support the latest version of Java in its future technologies because Web services are linking Java and .NET.

CA opens its door to Web services (SearchWebServices.com)
Computer Associates isn't trying to be all things to all people when it comes to Web services, but it does believe it has an edge in making Web services "accessible to humans" with portals and legacy-to-Web development tools. One of CA's top strategists says that Web services have potential, despite the need for additional standards, and that more companies must be willing to let Java and .NET work together.

ASK TONY NORTHRUP
Can you explain Web farm technology?
Dear Tony:
Can you tell me something related to the Web farm technology? I only know that in Web farms, multiple servers are used to handle user requests. It would be nice if I could get a more detailed description. Thanks.

THE MISSING LINK
When the hackers become the hacked -- it hurts
;)
Here's a story with a moral: Avoid hacking someone who has an axe in the house. A guy in Scotland linked a pair of PCs for two brothers so they could communicate. But one of the brothers became convinced that the guy had hacked into their little fraternal network and invited him over to grind his axe -- into the back of the alleged hacker's head! The hatchet man, in his own defense, said that he did attack the victim but with the handle, not the more dangerous end of the tool. That was thoughtful, at least! The victim is going to be OK. The defendant still has some psychiatric tests to take before he learns his fate. Someone needs to tell him that axes are bad; firewalls are good.
