NEWS
Longhorn to be client release only (eWEEK)
Microsoft evidently drew out its road map in pencil. The company has changed its mind about a Longhorn server release. Longhorn will be a client release only, succeeding Windows XP, and may be available sometime in 2003. It looks like the next server release will be Blackcomb -- way down the pike in 2006.

NEWS

Rand Morimoto, a consultant and technology security adviser to President Bush, said that Microsoft's SharePoint Portal works well only when used as one part of a larger collaboration and knowledge management system.

THE MISSING LINK
Plot thickens in online movie rental story

Renting movies online is not a new idea. But renting good movies, like flicks starring anybody but Madonna, was still a pipe dream -- until today. Big-time studios Sony, Universal, Paramount, MGM and Warner Brothers are stocking the virtual shelves of Movielink, an online rental store, with more than 150 titles. A rental costs anywhere from $2.99 to $4.99, takes roughly an hour to download with broadband and is available for viewing for 24 hours before it goes into the virtual drop-off bin. No rewinding necessary! This news makes you wonder if the folks at Blockbuster are sweating through their blue button-down oxford shirts.
