We have either misplaced our crystal ball, or one of the sales staff's kids pinched it during the Halloween party. Regardless, we need some help looking into the future.

It's no secret that IT spending for 2002 was about as busy as the Cincinnati Bengals during playoff season. We'd like to know how 2003 is shaping up within Windows nation. For example, are you planning to help make Bill richer next year? Sure he's the man who has everything, but do you plan to give him more?

Does Titanium sound titillating? Do you find yourself dreaming of .NET Server? Or do you just wish your heterogeneous network would just play nice and that your system would be secure?

In a nutshell, will Windows wax or wane in your world? Let us know what your plans are by taking our survey. It's free, easy -- and hey, at least we're not telemarketing this stuff! Your answers will help us know what trends to look for in 2003, and hopefully serve you better.

    >> Chip me? Think tank debates chip implants for people
Would you like to be treated like a dog? Scientists and privacy advocates have been debating the pros and cons of implanting people with microchips. The little glass gadgets can track you, ID you and tell doctors your medical history should you be unable to do any of those things. Some people say "chips ahoy" to the idea -- others say the concept really gets under their skin.
    >> Visual Studio .NET used to build knowledge management app
Some types of redundancy are not good. In this field report, a lack of communication tools was causing hundreds of software developers working for the same company in different states to write the same code.
    >> Oops! True IT blooper #79: Duct tape dupes IT pro
An IT pro drives miles and miles to troubleshoot a problem that has more to do with tape and stupidity than technology.

    Tip of the Week:
Our Director of IT is running WinXP SP1 on an HP Pavilion ze5000 laptop. This morning, right after we installed IIS on our Windows 2000 Server, he began to experience a real slowdown on his laptop. When we checked CPU utilization for running processes, his svchost.exe was at 99%! We thought it might be a worm or something, but a Norton Antivirus 2002 Pro scan came back negative. Any idea what could cause this? (Note: After a reboot his CPU utilization for svchost.exe went back to 1%.)
