TAKE A QUANTUM LEAP | by Serdar Yegulalp

Many administrators are familiar with the option in Windows 2000 to
either give equal processing time to foreground and background
processes, or to give foreground processes higher priority. There are
ways to provide additional levels of granularity and flexibility to
foreground and background processes. To do this, we need to edit the

ADD AND REMOVE OPTIONAL FEATURES OF WINDOWS XP | by Robert Shahon

Microsoft has removed the ability to specify which Windows components
you want to install during interactive setup in XP. And, when you go
into Add/Remove Windows Components in the Control Panel, you still
don't have the full list of applications and applets you can add and
remove. Thankfully, this is easy to fix.

MANAGING DNS, PART 1 | by Robert Shimonski

DNS, better known as the Domain Name System, is an integral part of
every network these days. Once trapped to the confines of a text file
called HOSTS, this service has grown to fuel the Internet, and now is
an important part of Windows 2000 networks. DNS, although simple in
explanation, has confused many people. This tip explains the
fundamentals of DNS and how to configure it on a simple LAN connected
to the Internet. Part two will discuss a more advanced setup and
management system.

related information you'll find on the answer page.

A boot-time device driver that doesn't load correctly will cause
Windows 2000 to bluescreen with an error. The best way to remedy this
is:

a. Enter Windows safe mode at startup and assign a new driver
b. Have Windows attempt to detect a more recent driver
c. Type 'disable <driver>.sys' at the Recovery Console

GOT ANY TIPS ON GROUP POLICY MANGEMENT? | Ask Jerry Honeycutt

Dear Jerry:
I fear that poor design and management of policies could lead to an
administrative burden that outweighs the benefits of the 'keep it
simple' approach. Regarding control of desktop features and user
permissions using group policy objects, do you have a set of top
three (or more) dos and don'ts for design implementation and
management of group policy?
