EXPECT .NET SERVER EXAMS IN APRIL | by Ed Tittel

Microsoft recently announced at Comdex Fall 2002 that Windows .NET
Server 2003 will ship next April. This has interesting implications
for individuals pursuing Microsoft certification, either the current
Windows 2000 track or the future .NET track. First of all, please
notice that we don't yet have a definite day, but only a definite
month. My eight years of close MS watching tells me that April 25 --
the last Friday in the month -- is the most likely day for this
much-anticipated ship event.

WINDOWS USERS SPLIT ON CERTIFICATION | by Robert L. Scheier

How important is it to be certified to use Microsoft products? This
TechTarget survey found that respondents were almost evenly split,
with 29% considering it "vital" or "important," 35% feeling it was
"nice to have," and 34% calling it "not very important" or "useless."
Have a look at more survey details and quotes from our users -- they
may help you make some decisions about the course of your own

WHY MCSES TAKE THE AD DESIGN EXAM | by Ed Tittel

Everybody who pursues an MCSE knows that in addition to the "Core 4"
exams -- those exams on Windows XP or 2000 Professional (70-270 and
70-210 respectively), Windows 2000 Server (70-215), Windows 2000
Network Infrastructure (70-216) and Windows 2000 Directory Services
Infrastructure (70-217) -- there's another category of required exams
called the Core Design exams. After finishing the Core 4, candidates
must choose and pass one design exam, plus two electives, to earn an
MCSE.

GETTING CERTIFIED ON A SHOESTRING BUDGET | by David Weldon

Experts pretty much agree that 2002 will go down as among the worst
years ever for IT hiring and training. That has meant dire news for
the IT worker. Training and certifications have always been key for
salary and career advancement. But even in this dismal economy, there
are ways to get certifications on the cheap, or to convince your boss
to foot the bill. Here are some certification options that can boost
your salary potential, without breaking the bank.

AM I ON THE RIGHT TRACK TO ATTAIN GURU STATUS? | Ask Ed Tittel

Dear Ed:
I'm picking up a few certifications. Presently I have A+, Network+,
MCP, MCSE, CWNA and CCNA. I'm going next for CNA and MCDBA. Am I on
the right track for advancing my career? By the way, I have
experience in all of my certifications except CCNA. But I'm familiar
with all the basic concepts, and there are routers here to play with
in a lab environment. What I'm getting at is, are all the
certifications worth it? I want to be recognized as a guru!
