FIRST .NET SERVER EXAMS OUT NEXT SUMMER? | by Ed Tittel

Inspired or hallucinatory as my own recent predictions have been.
a recently published interview with Dan Truax, director of Microsoft
certification business and product strategy has set the record
straight on Windows .NET Server 2003 certification -- at least for
now. Upon reading Truax's "predictions," I now believe the first
Windows .NET Server exams will probably not be released before June
2003.

WHAT YOU NEED IN THE 2003 JOB MARKET | by Kevin Ferguson

Want to double your pay next year? You'll need four things on your
resume: object-oriented programming, ASP.NET know-how, C# aptitude
and the rarest of all job-hunting skills, honest self-appraisal. As
the Windows world migrates to .NET, job opportunities are blossoming
for IT workers skilled in Microsoft's latest programming
technologies. Large-scale computing enterprises -- particularly those
in the banking, real estate, insurance and medical industries -- have
stepped up their efforts to hire qualified .NET workers.

WHEN WILL THE EXCHANGE 5.5 EXAMS BE PHASED OUT? | Ask Ed Tittel

Dear Ed:
I am a systems administrator, working in an ad agency with 50 or so
MACs, about 100 NT4 PCs and five NT4 servers. I have been in this
position for three years and have decided it is about time to get
some qualifications/certifications. Ideally, I'd like to take the
Exchange 5.5/Proxy 2000 as electives. However, I know that these
exams are being phased out sometime in 2003. First, can you tell me
when in 2003 they will be stopped? Second, can you tell me if they
still count towards my MCSE if I pass them now, but don't finish the
other units until, say, the end of 2003?

Test your knowledge with this week's quiz, then visit the list of
related information you'll find on the answer page.

Windows 2000 contains a system component, the Windows Installer,
which is billed as an "application installation and management
service." Under certain combinations of circumstances, however, it is
possible to damage the installer. The easiest way to repair it is to:

a. Convert the program databases from the 1.1 to the 2.0 format
b. Update the binaries for the installer
c. Get Windows Installer 2.0 as a separate download from Microsoft
d. Install Service Pack 2 -- it addresses the issue
