USE REMOTE DESKTOP FOR ADMINISTRATION | by Barrie Sosinsky

If you're using Windows XP Pro in your organization, you'll find it
offers a feature called Remote Desktop that is based on Terminal
Services. Using Remote Desktop you can log onto a system from another
machine and your applications and files as if you were sitting there
in front of the system locally. While this feature is useful to some
end users, it is particularly helpful for administrators who can
change server settings; add, modify, or delete users and computers;
open a Command Prompt box to enter CLI commands; and even reboot a
system.

OOPS! TRUE IT BLOOPER #90: FUZZY BRAIN

When installation of software looks like it's on track, it's just as
likely to derail. In this Blooper, a disaster recovery system seems

ANALYSIS PARALYSIS MUST END IN 2003

In 2003, KISS will be an IT buzzword. In this case, however, KISS
will stand for Keep It Safe, Stupid. Windows administrators' lives
will be greatly affected by security-related events at home and
abroad, especially the passage of the Homeland Security Act.

OOPS! TRUE IT BLOOPER #89: MR. HANDYMAN

For IT pros, the temptation to take a hammer to an unruly system is
great. In this true story, an IT pro uses his home toolbox to cover
up a system's shortcomings.

WHY DOES MY XP PRO MACHINE BOOT SO SLOWLY? | Ask Serdar Yegulalp

Dear Serdar:
I am a programmer and just received a new Windows XP Professional PC.
It seems to take a long time to boot up -- around three minutes. I
only see the message "Loading personal settings." After it boots,
everything is fine and running extremely well. Is there something
that our network administrators can do to correct this problem?
