A proactive security manager installed ELM Enterprise Manager 3.0 on
his servers to assess the benefits of real time monitoring. Within
days, EEM 3.0 paged him when access to confidential files was denied,
e-mailed him during a port scan attack, and restarted a failed
antivirus service. Download your 30-day evaluation copy and
experience how real time monitoring will benefit you.

BACK UP YOUR MICROSOFT ENCRYPTION KEYS | by Tom Lancaster

If you're concerned about security, and have followed some of our
previous tips, you may have encrypted some or all of the folders in
your Win2000 computers. Microsoft's built-in encryption does a lot to
protect your data by allowing only the user who encrypted a file or
folder or drive to then decrypt it. While this is a great thing, it
does have one downside: It's remotely possible that some bit of file
corruption could destroy your private key that allows you to decrypt
files.

FIX A LOGIN SCREEN STUCK IN A LOOP | by Srinivasa Rao

Things may seem grim if your login screen is stuck in a loop. That is
to say that the login prompt keeps reappearing and you cannot log in
to Windows 2000. Don't start thinking about rebuilding the machine --
dust off your old Windows 9x disk.

TIGHTEN SHARED PC SECURITY | by Jason Silva

In an ideally secure network, you will have one user to a machine,
each with his or her own unique password. But if you absolutely have
to have a common login on one of your workstations, there are a few
points you should keep in mind.

COOKIES | by Jeffrey Posluns

There are a lot of free and inexpensive programs to eliminate or help
control cookies, and the initial response when presented with an
option to accept a cookie is usually not to do so. But what
information are cookies actually gathering? Are cookies really
dangerous? And the most important question is -- should you care?

PREVENT USERS REMOVING PCS FROM A DOMAIN | Ask Roberta Bragg

Dear Roberta:
All the users in our company (4000) are administrators of their
computers (their network user is a part of the local administrators
group). This was done since about 50% of the people in the company
are developers. However, we have a few users who take their machines
out of the domain -- for many reasons, such as home networking,
connecting to clients' networks, etc. Do you know how this can be
stopped?

OOPS! TRUE IT BLOOPER #90: FUZZY BRAIN | Quick Hit

When installation of software looks like it's on track, it's just as
likely to derail. In this blooper, a disaster recovery system seems
doomed when an engineer gets his wires crossed.
