MEMBER POLL
Who's to blame for Slammer?
We all love to point fingers. Now's your chance to assign blame in the matter of the Slammer worm. Was it your own fault for not patching? Was it Microsoft's fault for allowing it? Or was the worm's author the only person at whom people should be throwing stones?

THE MISSING LINK
Oops, computer glitch does it again

Computer glitches can do amazing things. They've been responsible for listing a bunch of alive-and-kicking Michiganders as dead, allowing an ATM to give away loads of cash and now sending a note to a prospective first grader in Norway reminding her that she'll be starting school this fall. Ready for the punchline? The would-be grade schooler is 106! She should have gotten that note a century earlier. It seems the computer read the centenarian's year of birth as 1997 rather than 1897. The lady got a good Norwegian giggle from the Scandinavian snafu: "Since I can already read, maybe I should skip a couple grades," she said.
