Microsoft posted an updated patch for a faulty NT 4.0 fix it pulled last week. The patch addressed a vulnerability affecting the WM_TIMER function on a variety of Microsoft's operating systems, including Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. An exploit could elevate an intruder's administrative privileges. The original patch caused random crashes and system reboots.

BMC's Patrol suits Men's Wearhouse just fine (SearchSystemsManagement.com)
Clothing retailer Men's Wearhouse found its IT infrastructure bursting at the seams prior to a recent nationwide expansion. To better manage its network of 200 Unix and Windows servers, the company deployed a range of management software tools from BMC's Patrol platform. BMC recently released an upgraded Patrol for Windows tool that, among other things, trims the number of configuration steps it takes to monitor Windows Server environments that use Active Directory.

Dude, what's in the bag? -- Dell's "Steven" busted
![]()
Dell's goofy, young PC pitchman, whom the company has been weeding out of its commercials, has weeded his way into the NYPD computer system. It seems "Steven," a.k.a. Benjamin Curtis, got busted in the Big Apple -- police claim Curtis was carrying a bag of illicit flora, a.k.a. marijuana. Curtis, 22, is a student at New York University -- it's still too early to tell if the charge means Curtis' stint as Dell's "young, hip" spokesman to the Pepsi-swilling generation will officially go to pot. Those bumbling interns in the commercials now might be around a little longer.
