DISABLE MEDIA SENSING | by Serdar Yegulalp

Sometimes when Microsoft is trying to help, it can actually create
new problems. One such 'helpful' feature that can potentially wind up
causing trouble is the built-in media-sensing feature. This tip tells

CHANGING ATTRIBUTES: LAST WRITES DON'T ALWAYS WIN | by Mark Bagley

What happens if two people change the same attribute of the same
object on different domain controllers prior to replication
occurring? A popular belief is that the person who makes the last
change to the attribute will win. However, this isn't necessarily so.

ENFORCING LOGON TIME RESTRICTIONS | by Michael Adams

If you've set up a group policy to set logon restrictions for certain
users to particular hours of the day, you may find at some point that

as they should be. When this happens, try the following.

XP PC LOGS OFF AFTER 15 MINUTES IDLE TIME | Ask Jerry Honeycutt

Dear Jerry:
I am having problems keeping a connection from Windows XP to my
Windows 2000 domain controller. After successful logon to the
domain/network, as long as I keep working with local documents or
network resources, I'm fine. But when I leave the XP client idle for
a period of about 15 minutes without any activity, it's automatically
logged off the domain and file server. Are there any XP Pro/Win2k
server configurations to disable this default feature or workaround?

related information you'll find on the answer page.

A server may accumulate a great many backup folders from the
installation of Service Packs. If the server has been running
dependably for quite some time, you can usually remove the SP
uninstall files and free up 25-100 MB per Service Pack. To do this
you can:

a. Delete them from a hidden folder in the \%Systemroot% directory
b. Delete the corresponding registry key
c. Uninstall the Service Pack in 'Add/Remove Programs'
d. All of the above
e. Spend the time playing Pac Man instead
