It's almost "Greenwich" time, and Microsoft is getting ready. The company is tooling the Windows XP client for realtime communications and the digital rights management add-on services for Windows Server 2003. Developers and solution providers can use it to create apps that let end users communicate and collaborate in realtime, including via IM.

NEWS
Great wall of Windows source code open to China (CNET)
Microsoft has signed a big deal with China, agreeing to open up the Windows source code for the Chinese government. Beijing was leaning toward Linux because officials consider the availability of source code crucial for national security. The deal is part of Microsoft's Government Security Program (GSP).

ASK PAUL HINSBERG
Credential conflict when moving PCs to a domain
Dear Paul:
I have a Windows 2000 server domain using Active Directory. It was set up as a workgroup instead of a domain, and I've converted it over. Some of the computers were able to get out of the workgroup and join the domain, but on three computers I get an error message that tells me the credentials conflict with an existing set of credentials and the computer is not allowed to join. Any ideas?

THE MISSING LINK
IT still churning out billionaires

Bill Gates is still pretty stinkin' rich. But his riches have been filthier. Forbes has released its annual list of the planet's wealthiest people, and Mister Microsoft is still at the top of the well-heeled heap with $41 billion and change. But last year he was worth some $10 billion more than that -- proof that the only thing that stinks more than Gates' wealth is the economy. Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen also made the top 10, as did (Captain) Larry Ellison of Oracle. You can call Oprah Winfrey "Ms. Fortune" -- she's the first African-American woman to join the club.
