PRINCIPLES IN AD INFRASTRUCTURE DESIGN | by James Michael Stewart

When you're laying out your Active Directory design, you have to have
some principles in mind, if you want your design to be as efficient
as possible. In this tip we discuss several considerations that you
need to know to avoid mistakes, and to keep from limiting the design
you finally come up with.

USING SECURITY PRINCIPLES | by James Michael Stewart

A security principle is a fixed account defined and managed
automatically by Active Directory? Your only access to these entities
is to assign or restrict access for them on objects. Read this tip
for a list of the principles and how to use them.

CAN MS MIGRATION TOOLS HELP ME MOVE TO AD? | Ask Paul Hinsberg

Dear Paul:
Can the Microsoft migration tools be used to migrate to Active
Directory from a NetWare 5.1 eDirectory environment when using
Account Manager (NDS4NT) to administrate my NT4 domains? I
directory-enabled NT before AD was even around. I am thinking yes, if
I treat it as a pure NetWare migration. The big treat will be the
passwords -- essential treat would be file security settings.

PAIN IN THE PASSWORD | Oops! True IT blooper #77

It's a delicate line that network administrators walk as they try to
secure their networks without implementing over-the-top security
measures. Passwords are vital and a relatively simple solution, but
only if users remember to utilize them.

DAMAGED GOODS | Know-IT-All Quiz #24

There are pitfalls to using group policy objects that may not be
obvious. One of the errors that can be logged on workstations that
have GPOs applied to them unsuccessfully is Event ID 1000. This error
is notoriously vague, but the most common reason is:

a. The history key in the registry has been deleted
b. A registry entry has incorrect permissions applied to it
c. Missing or damaged registry entries
d. Both b and c
e. The FCC has removed an offensive registry entry
