Microsoft ISA firewall vulnerable to DoS attack (IDG)
Microsoft has warned users of its Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000 firewall and Web cache product of a vulnerability in the software's Domain Name Service intrusion-detection application filter. The flaw could allow an attacker to launch a denial-of-service attack against the ISA Server and prevent it from processing DNS requests. The ISA Server allows DNS requests to be passed from the Internet to an internal DNS server, a process known as DNS publishing.

Rrrruff stuff: New gadget gauges Fido's feelings
![]()
Need a translator for your terrier, Berlitz for your bullmastiff or an interpreter for your Irish wolfhound? A company in Japan says its Bowlingual gadget knows what your dog is saying. Bowlingual is a small wireless microphone that snaps onto a dog's collar. Every "ruff," "woof," "grrr" and "yip" is transmitted into a doggie database. The technology then translates the dog sounds into something humans can understand. It figures out whether the sounds express happiness, sadness, frustration, anger, assertion or desire -- and translates the emotion into English. For example, "grrr" might come out as, "Hello! This is MY rawhide. Get your own bone!" The company, Takara, plans to unleash Bowlingual this summer in the U.S., although the $120 price tag may make you tuck your tail and flee.
