Microsoft removes flawed XP security update (Reuters)
Microsoft has removed a Windows XP security update after it learned that the software add-on switched off Internet connections. Microsoft said 600,000 users downloaded the update and were affected. The update was supposed to improve the security of Internet connections, but Microsoft quickly learned it was incompatible with other security firewall software. Removing the software update would restore the Internet connection, Microsoft said. A new update is being prepared.

Office XP is going on sale. Microsoft has slashed the retail prices of the professional and standard editions by almost 15%. The discounts are supposed to attract small businesses and consumers to Office XP.
