    Dear SearchWin2000.com readers:

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Vandana Sharma and I recently joined the SearchWin2000.com team as an Assistant Site Editor. My goal is to make SearchWin2000.com as useful as possible for Windows professionals and decision makers. To achieve that, I'd like to hear from you! Tell me what we are doing well or what we could be doing better. Let me know what products, technologies or processes you need more information about. What are your biggest work-related challenges? If there's something we aren't doing that you would like us to be doing, I want to hear from you! The SearchWin2000.com team is open to any suggestion, criticism or compliment that you have to offer. Just e-mail us at [EMAIL PROTECTED].

Oh, and one more thing: I'm now managing our tip contest, so I want to remind you to keep those tips coming. User submitted tips are a popular feature of SearchWin2000.com because they contain helpful insights from the brightest minds in the market -- people just like yourself! Send me your hottest Windows related IT tips and become eligible to enter our monthly tip contest prize. Our past prizes have included popular tech gadgets such as CD/MP3 players, digital voice recorders, webcams and wireless stereo headphones. Check below for October's tip contest winners.

If you've previously submitted a tip and haven't had a chance to win, why not start fresh in November and try to win this month's super duper contest prize: an iRiver SlimX iMP-350 CD/MP3 player!

I'm happy to be a part of the SearchWin2000.com team and I look forward to hearing from you all. Enjoy the week ahead!

    What's new with certification
by Marilyn Cohodas, Senior Site Editor

New certs and learning programs are part of Microsoft's latest plan to bridge the gap between on-the-job skills, career advancement and professional credentials. This augurs well for workaday IT pros seeking advanced knowledge of Microsoft technologies and MCSA and MCSE candidates looking to pass their exams. Find out what's new and what's coming down the pike in this week's Featured Topic.

     Expert Technical Advice:

Featured Expert Laura Hunter, Network Administrator, Technical Trainer
    Category: Network Management

How do I set up a working dial-in server for the purpose of remote access to my home network? VPN is not an option as I am ditching my ISP and therefore need direct dial-in.

Congratulations to October's Hall of Fame tip winners!
    >> 1st place: Quickly resolve unknown Event IDs by Tim Fenner
Find out how to use www.EventID.net to quickly resolve your Event IDs. Site members submit and share their experiences with the Event IDs they resolve; plus the site allows nonmembers to search through the posts by both the Event ID number and source. And now, Microsoft joins the bandwagon.
    >> 2nd place: Round-robin DNS with different subnets by Randy Brown
Recently I set up a round-robin DNS with three entries for the same host using three different IP addresses. I turned on the "Enable Round Robin" option at the DNS server, but when I attempted to use different machines to access the round-robin host name, each machine went to the same server. The "round robin" part of the DNS did not seem to be working. Here's how I fixed it.
    >> 3rd Place: Recover Exchange public folders through OWA by Steve Spieler
Sometimes Exchange users accidentally delete public folders that they then need back. Using the Recover Deleted Items wizard to recover these folders can be a very useful tool; however, it doesn't always work. As an alternative, find out how you can recover deleted items in Outlook Web Access.

    Tip of the Week:
Microsoft's latest strategy for security advises "use an Internet firewall." The company then suggests using a "hardware" or "software" firewall. So, which one of the two should you choose? The answer is both and this tip explains why.
