NEWS
Spammers flying under Exchange radar? (CNET)
A recently published white paper warns that spammers may be exploiting a flaw in Exchange 5.5 and 2000 messaging servers to send bulk e-mail under the security radar. Spammers are using guest accounts to send mail, an oversight that bypasses any security precautions.

Bill Gates filled his Comdex keynote speech with a prediction that seamless computing (where all a user's information is connected) will be reality by 2010. As for the present, Gates said that trustworthy computing -- the security fundamentals -- is most important, and he took the opportunity to pitch SMS and ISA 2004 as products that will make security more effective and manageable.

ASK THE EXPERT, ROD TRENT
Stop users from declining SUS updates
Dear Rod:
We are a Novell shop, so as a result our users are "administrator" equivalent for reasons I won't go into. I installed SUS server into the environment, and because the users are admin equivalent, they are still given the option to decline the updates. I need to force them with a reboot! Is this possible?

THE MISSING LINK
Drawl slows tech to a crawl

There's one thing even the latest technology can't deal with -- a north Louisiana drawl. Some of the accents are so thick, the voice recognition system for the Shreveport Police Department can't understand them. It ends up routing a lot of these non-emergency calls to the wrong extensions. Obviously, the system isn't from around those parts.
