OUTLOOK RESTRICTIONS? CHECK THE REGISTRY | by Serdar Yegulalp

Many behaviors in Windows can be restricted or modified through the
use of administrative policies, resulting in an error message to the
user: "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in
effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."
However, this same message can be generated under conditions that
have nothing to do with administrative restrictions. In fact, this
notice may be the result of a damaged Registry key.

REDUCING SPAM E-MAIL | by Adesh Rampat

Most companies have installed spam filter software that greatly
reduces the number of spam e-mail messages users receive. However,
implementing spam filters requires a lot of tweaking, and they're not
foolproof. This technical article looks at some built in features in
Outlook 2002 that can be applied to help reduce spam.

IS IT FAKE OR IS IT MICROSOFT? | by Tom Lancaster

If my e-mail inbox is typical of a normal technical user's (and I
believe it is), I'm not the only recent recipient of ostensibly
security-related e-mail from "Microsoft-like" addresses. The names
associated with their SMTP addresses (which never include
microsoft.com as the domain name) include: Microsoft Security
Division, Microsoft Security Update, Microsoft Security and so forth.
There are some rules you can (and should) use to determine whether
any e-mail that claims to originate from Microsoft is legitimate.

WINDOWS XP'S BUILT-IN ADMINISTRATION TOOLS | Article

Windows XP comes with a set of local administration tools that, while
not always overlooked, are often underrated. Some of these tools may
be familiar to the administrator, while others may be completely new
(you'd be surprised how many admins don't know about the "Manage"
context menu) or may have unexpected functions.

GATES IS A TOUCH ACT TO FOLLOW | Opinion

What Jerry Lewis is to the Labor Day Telethon, Bill Gates is to
Comdex. If ever a day comes when Gates opts out of headlining the
annual Las Vegas event, the IT community will be the lesser for it.
This year, Microsoft's chief software architect did a round of media
interviews before and during Comdex, and -- no surprise here --
Windows security was the topic du jour.
