LEAD STORY
Longhorn to be released in pieces, Gartner predicts  (The Age)
A client version of Windows will be released in late 2005 as the first phase of the Longhorn project, Gartner predicts. The IT research firm says that such a move would satisfy customers who have signed up for Microsoft's Software Assurance licensing program. The new Windows file system and interface probably won't make their debut until the server version of Longhorn is released about a year later, Gartner says.

ASK THE EXPERT
How can I recover encrypted data?
Dear Roberta:
I have a Win2k Pro machine as part of a domain. I recently reinstalled the OS on my C partition, leaving the existing D partition intact. Unfortunately I had data encrypted on the D partition that is now inaccessible. I have a full system state backup of the machine prior to installing the OS. If this is restored, does it contain info relating to the same domain users certificates/keys to enable the ability to decrypt/read the encrypted files?
