Microsoft to beef up SMTP relay for Exchange (SearchExchange.com)
As part of its effort to combat spam and viruses, Microsoft announced on Tuesday that it will make improvements to the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) relay for its Exchange messaging platform.

Microsoft pledges improvements in patching (vnunet)
Admitting that its software patches are difficult for customers to keep up with, a Microsoft executive says that the company will make patches in the future that can be "reversed out" and implemented without having to reboot. In addition, security official David Aucsmith said, users will be able to get updates for all of their Microsoft software from a single location -- Microsoft Updates.

Kassel Kops charge electricity thief

Everyone's heard of the world's dumbest criminals, but what about the world's dumbest cops? That badge of dishonor has to go to three members of Kassel, Germany's fine force. The threesome arrested a young man for plugging his laptop into a socket at a train station. The charge? Stealing electricity! Shocking, isn't it? The "thief," who estimates he took less than a penny's worth of power, was trying to find the location of his hostel. Prosecutors are trying to figure out if the case is worth pursuing.
