Are your PCs living on borrowed time? Did your company make major PC investments during the dot-com days, and hasn't had the budget since then to upgrade your computers? If so, you're among the majority of IT organizations that are finally coming into extra budget dollars and realizing the importance of upgrading PCs.
A recent IDC study surveyed 1000 U.S. businesses and found that 30% of corporate buyers said that upgrading essential hardware will be their primary focus this year. Of those 1,000 companies, more than 50% cited personal computers and central server systems as the actual equipment they plan to replace in 2004.
And if that's not proof enough that organizations are planning to invest in PC upgrades, IDC also reported that PC unit shipments will hit the 172.1 million mark this year -- that's more than 11% greater than last year's total.
But not all IT organizations will invest in hardware upgrades in 2004. Budgets, tech support and mobile workforces are all major concerns for companies investigating upgrade options. To help you better evaluate your upgrade options, we launched the PC Lifecycle Info Center which features the latest news, advice and tips for managing the PC lifecycle.
