Microsoft settles legal battle with Sun

In a far-reaching settlement that covers antitrust and patent issues, Microsoft has agreed to pay $1.6 billion to Sun Microsystems. The longtime rivals also reached deals in a number of other areas. In a related announcement, Sun said that it will slash its work force by 9%.

Antivirus vendors are rushing to update signature files to detect new Lovegate, Netsky and Sober worm variants.
MSBlast epidemic far larger than believed

The MSBlast worm has infected about eight million Windows-based computers since it first surfaced last summer, according to new Microsoft research. The software maker calculated that eight million users downloaded a free tool to protect themselves against the worm, but a total of 16 million users might actually be infected. That's the number of computers that a Microsoft Update scan found were infected.

New York holds spam 'tasteless' test
Maybe spam isn't totally worthless. The Consumer Protection Board of New York is holding a sort of spam beauty contest, and it is inviting people to enter examples of the most outrageous e-mail scams that have invaded their inboxes.
