MS to pay up for Sasser arrest tip

Based on a tip to Microsoft, a German high school student has been arrested in connection with writing and distributing the Sasser worm, which antivirus experts estimate has attacked tens of millions of PCs across the world. Microsoft says it will pay a bounty to infomants in the case if the teen is convicted.

Microsoft's Allchin syncs 'Longhorn' releases

The head of Microsoft's platforms group says some features in the server version of the Longhorn operating system will be scaled back initially so that it can be released at about the same time as the client version, which will possibly ship in 2006. Jim Allchin was not specific about which features will be put on hold, but he said the client and server versions of the next generation of Windows will only be months apart.

Gas pumps play dual roles these days, pumping a little gas into your tank while simultaneously pumping a fortune out of your pockets. With gas prices in the U.S. more outrageous than all of Cher's and Elton John's outfits combined, several Web sites have popped up that steer surfers to the least-pricey pumps. Sites like GasBuddy.com and Gaspricewatch.com track more than 100,000 stations, and show drivers where they can get the most octane for the least pain. And there's plenty of pain to go around -- the average retail price of gas hit an all-time high of $1.84 per gallon last week.
