Have you heard the one about the user who kept calling tech support because her keyboard had the wrong "sensitivity setting?" After numerous calls and five replacement keyboards, one resourceful fellow had had enough: he took a new keyboard, drilled a little hole in its side and inserted a random gizmo that fit snugly. Then he helped the user get the keyboard just right by "adjusting" the gizmo. The user, who could now make adjustments herself, was overjoyed and never called tech support again.

Other stories have more of a Homer Simpsonesque "D'oh!" character, such as the overzealous cleaning caper that killed a server and every monitor in an entire department, or the "possessed" computer that spread terror because of a single, stuck key. One thing they all have in common is that they are found in our True IT Blooper archive. We have over a hundred of the dumbest, zaniest and funniest IT goofs and missteps imaginable, available for whenever you have had a bad day and need a good laugh.

But we want to hear YOUR best IT Blooper! Surely, you've witnessed -- or perhaps been the main character of -- a tale so funny and/or absurd it must be shared. Now is the time to send it in! This month we're giving away a set of two Lazer Megabotz to whoever submits the best Blooper. These remote controlled robots turn, run, spin left and right, chase, charge and retreat in the most intense laser-tag fights you'll ever see in the office. Heck, you may even let your kids borrow them, after you're done with, ahem, Quality Control.

So, it's time to shine the spotlight on your best IT Blooper. Submit it today and you'll have a chance to win a set of two robots. Please note, winners outside North America will receive a $50 Amazon gift certificate.

    Regards,
    Matt Danielsson

    Dear Laura,
I just started a second office running a two-computer network. It is across town from my other office which has four computers. Some computers and networks are using Win ME on a single machine as a server and others are on Win 98SE. Is it easy to change these "servers" over to Win XP and keep my connections the same? Is there an affordable way to connect these two networks to share information?
    Read Laura's expert response.

    >> Unfolding the layers of virtualization

    Tip of the Week:
You can have installation and setup procedures that ensure a secure domain controller. You can also have a tightly controlled physical access control system.
