Linux vs Windows. You've heard it all before so I won't rehash it here. The more relevant question is whether this never-ending operating system controversy is worth debating at all any more. My suspicion is that Linux already has a place in many Windows enterprises and the rendering of the issue as an "either-or" proposition misses the point entirely.

The editors at SearchWin2000.com this week will be taking a look at the state of Linux and Windows in the Windows environment. In a series of articles and technical features, we'll be examining Linux as a server and desktop alternative, looking at how Windows stacks up against Linux for high-performance server clustering and reporting on how many of Microsoft's enterprise customers qualified to do so are actually looking at Windows source code. We hope you'll bookmark our home page and check out this in-depth special report when we launch it on Tuesday.

But that's only part of the story. We also are looking for your feedback on whether Linux already peacefully coexists in Windows environments. How are you using Linux today and what are your plans for the future? Do you encounter recurring interoperability issues and, if so, how do you resolve them? Are there adequate tools to let these rival OSes play nice? Drop us a line and share your views and concerns.

    Tip of the Week:
For security reasons, you can use policies to disable the use of USB block storage devices, such as "keychain" drives. Microsoft has introduced some changes in Windows XP Service Pack 2 that enable more granular control over how USB removable drives are handled. Serdar Yegulalp explains more in this tip.
