Also Beazley's Python Essential Reference Fourth edition discusses
programming in 2.x with an eye on 3.x once the third party issues are resolved.

There was, but like you, many folks are wary of *.0 anything, so in
a way it was treated like beta version.
However, the real stumbling block for real use is third party
package support -- I know I'm dead in the water until numpy and
wxpython and PIL, and??? are ported to py3.
numpy is on it's way, but it will be at least 6 months, probably
longer. I don't think anyone's really started on wxPython yet.
So it will be a while.
Anyway, a lot of folks are still using 2.3 or 2.4, so I thin 2.7
support will be around for LONG time.
