Thanks Nat and Chris for your suggestions
I looked at pyGpu but it looked to me like it has not had much dev
work since 2007 or so.
With GPU cards getting so cheap, I was looking into see at what point
it makes sense to off load task to them vs leaving it on the CPU.
And or if GPU's are still so specialized that mere mortals still can't
use them yet.

no, but there are a handful of projects that make it pretty easy to
write code for the GPU (OpenCL), and this one looks like it's doing
some image processing:
