Thank you for the help, I've a feeling that's not it though. When I do 'ps 
-ax' I can see both sawfish and gnome running happily. Also, I can 
substitute fvwm2 in the Xclients script and it'll also start up, show me 
the mouse pointer and stop there with a black screen. I can't seem to get 
xterm to run on it's own (the Xclients script actually defaults to that at 
the bottom, but when I comment out all the other options the server always 
crashes). Any other ideas?
