I investigated a bit more the problem. What is breaking util-linux versus
tcsh is just the security patch util-linux-2.11f-pwent.patch
which was added on Oct 09 according to changelog:

* Tue Oct 09 2001 Erik Troan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
- added patch from Olaf Kirch to fix possible pwent structure overwriting

So, we can conclude that people using tcsh has three possibilities:

a) no longer use tcsh
b) keep an older util-linux version knowing there is a possible security
   issue
c) change distribution.... hoping that security fixes are better managed
   and checked before release!

Can anybody from RedHat please let us know whether:

1) the problem will be in 7.2 as well
2) when a fix will be available (I feel it is VERY urgent due to the
   security concerns)

Please don't ask for bugzilla reports, when I made my one I discovered
it was already the duplicate of several others, the problem is really
affecting a lot of people....

                  Regards
              Alfredo Ferrari

P.S. I also discovered that cfdisk, my favourite tool for partitioning,
     disappeared from util-linux. Looking into changelogs I found:

* Sun Aug 26 2001 Elliot Lee <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 2.11f-9
- Don't include cfdisk, since it appears to be an even bigger pile of junk
than fdisk? :)

Is this the correct way to solve problems, that is to remove a useful tool
full stop instead of fixing it? For many operations cfdisk had definite
advantages wrt fdisk, at least IMHO.
