This reinforces Robert's point about confusion.
Unless explicitly stated in the errata, why/how would a user expect/know that
other patches are included in a particular kernel ?

The errata for kernel-*2.4.9-6 states the problem as:

"A vulnerability has been found in the ptrace code of the kernel (ptrace is
the part that allows program debuggers to run) that could be abused by
local users to gain root privileges."

No mention of VM problems here.

Another point of concern is that Redhat is seriously targeting the
"big-end of town" but it seems as though testing is not being carried out
on machines relevant to this market, i.e. multi-processor, large memory.
So why release kernels that *can not use swap* in a high memory environment?

Don't get me wrong - Redhat is my distro' of choice and my hope is that my
comments are taken as *constructive* criticism.
