Donald My guess is that the two file systems you want "/home and /usr" are not on the disk that you backed up.
Start by doing a `df -k` and verify that the /home and /usr are not on a different disk. Do you back up again ..... !!!!!!!! Ensure that you backup each separate partition on each disk. Ensure you use the "NO-REWIND" function of the backup command Then go back and do a interactive restore, to verify you have the files on tape. If not ... start all over again.
