Use fdisk or cfdisk to change the partition type.  Then run mke2fs on
the partition.  Make sure you do NOT run it on the wrong partition, as
it will wipe the information on the partition.

Do you know how to mount the new partition after you have it formatted?
Linux will not do it automaticly.
