I am using sendmail 8.11.2 on linux 7.2.
How can I setup my sendmail so that my mail users
can use outlook express to pop mail and send mail (smtp)
using my mail server from different locations.
However,I do not want to allow spammers from
using the mail sever (smpt) to relay mail through my mail server.
I have tried access_db and relay-domains but no avail.
Currently i have my sendmail.cm file set to Feature (promiscuous_relay)

Thanks anyone for their ideas and suggestions in advance.
Alfred.

You should ask this on the enigma-list, as it is more applicable to 7.2.

First, can you receive mail locally? If not, you should probably comment
out the DAEMON_OPTIONS line in /etc/mail/sendmail.mc and regenerate the
sendmail.cf file. If this is the case, let me know and I'll give a more
detailed description.

Second, if you can receive mail locally, can you receive it from a location
on you internal LAN?

Third, what do you have in /etc/mail/access? You should put the IP
addresses that you want to be able to relay in that file and restart
sendmail.

Forrest

hello there , happy new year everybody
having trouble with setting up a DNS server,
the named -g command shows the following output

Jan 05 00:20:17.550 starting BIND 9.1.0 -g
Jan 05 00:20:17.555 using 1 CPU
Jan 05 00:20:17.565 loading configuration from '/etc/named.conf'
Jan 05 00:20:17.576 the default for the 'auth-nxdomain' option is now =
'no'
Jan 05 00:20:17.592 no IPv6 interfaces found
Jan 05 00:20:17.597 listening on IPv4 interface lo, 127.0.0.1#53
Jan 05 00:20:17.612 ignoring config file logging statement due to -g =
option
Jan 05 00:20:17.616 couldn't open pid file '/var/run/named/named.pid': =
Permission denied
Jan 05 00:20:17.619 exiting (due to early fatal error)

Assuming you are running Bind under user 'named', make sure
dir /var/run/named/ is owned by named.named .

Just a test to see if I am on the list as it has been a day with no mail
from it. Thought the redhat 7.1 list would be a litty hoppier.
