Yes, like that, just the cable modem into the Linksys, and yes, it's a
BEFSR41 that connects 3 systems in the house, including mine, and from here
it also goes through crossover cable to another of mine.

                                      / other house computers
Cable modem - LinkSys - computer 1
                                                          \ computer 2

Both sit right next to each other, for testing purposes. The reason for not
connecting a new cable to the LinkSys in the other room, well, this was
cheaper and didn't require another hole in the wall :) Now, it's just a
challenge to see if RedHat can do what Windows does so easily ;) After it's
done, then maybe another router or hub or what have you. For now, I'm just
trying to be smarter than the machine, and am losing. Mm, does the puter 2
connection have to be other than the 192.168.1.0 network?

Guess you didn't think the IRQ thing a problem? At times, it's been possible
to ifup both eth0 and eth1, if both are assigned static IPs, and they would
both send and receive packets without error, and was even able to ping host
names for a while (just had to reinstall XP and RedHat and started all over,
this time, hopefully, doing it right). Someone mentioned using routed and
building a bridge between the two NICs, which is how XP does it, I think,
but XP requires a network setup too, so would Samba be necessary? Ip
masqurading? Packet forwarding? I've learned a lot, but still without
success. Thing is, can't find a howto on this type of setup, though there
are many that are close.

Thanks for the reply,

George
