When the tape process doesnt die,it shows that u have a KERNEL level crash.
And kill will not work on level crashes. Unfortunately there is no other way of circumventing this other than a reboot on the machine.Restarting the tape drive wont help. U need to find out why the mt-f command crashed(if the problem recurs).Are all ur tape modules (aic7xxx,sd st etc in place).Next check connections Anukul --- "Martinez, Michael - CSREES/ISTM" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Try turning off your tape drive, then turn it back > on. > > Michael Martinez > System Administrator (Contractor) > Information Systems and Technology Management > CSREES - United States Department of Agriculture > (202) 720-6223 > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Mike Burger [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Monday, July 01, 2002 12:35 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: the process doesn`t die > > > You'll have to reboot...I ran into the same problem > a few times, and > rebooting was the only thing that recovered. > > On Mon, 1 Jul 2002, Gerardo Tagliani wrote: > > > > > Hi! > > > > I have a process running in my redhat server, that > is holding my tape > unit: > > > > # ps -ef | grep mt > > root 12809 1 0 11:21 ? 00:00:00 mt > -f /dev/nst0 status > > > > ..... > > > > then a make: > > > > # kill -9 12809 > > > > # ps -ef | grep mt > > root 12809 1 0 11:21 ? 00:00:00 mt > -f /dev/nst0 status > > > > why, it doesn`t die?? > > > > somebody can giveme a idea.
