what is the output of lsmod? Does it have aic7xxx
If not ,do a modprobe aic7xxx,so also for sg,sg etc. SO if its not a connection problem(coz of entries in /proc/scsi/scsi),u surely have a kernel issue.Didnt restarting ur Linux box help?Is this the first time its happening?what tape drive make/model are u using.And how about ur scsi/scsi id etc?
